MGU Semester Exams 2022: The Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU), Kottayam has postponed all its semester examinations scheduled for July 11 in wake of the heavy rain predicted in the region. The University in a statement said that it will announce the new dates soon. 

Meanwhile, the Kerala government has also issued an alert of heavy rain and thunder for the next five days in the state cautioning those who are living the hilly areas. The announcement came after the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a yellow alert warning for most of the districts in Kerala for the next three days indicating isolated heavy rainfall. 

"There is a heavy rain and thunder alert for the next five days in Kerala," the Kerala chief minister's office said. Following the IMD alert, the state government got into action and deployed National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams in Idukki, Wayanad and Kozhikode districts.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has also cautioned people living in hilly areas in view of the IMD declaring a Yellow alert. "There are reports that the water level in the Kadalundi, Bharathapuzha, Shiriya, Karavannur, and Gayathri rivers of northern Kerala is rising. Similarly, the water level in Vamanapuram, Neyyar, Karamana, kallada, Manimala, and Meenachil rivers is also rising," Vijayan announced on a Facebook post. 

He further said that a red alert has been issued around the regions of lower Periyar, and Kallarkutti dams under the State Electricity Board. Since the past few days, the state has been receiving incessant rains, as per the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), a total of six people have died across the state due to rain-related incidents since July 3.
