Osmania University halts classes, postpones exams amid COVID-19 surge

Osmania University released an official notice stating, “As per the Government direction, all the ongoing and scheduled examinations are postponed. The revised schedule will be announced later.”

Osmania University in Hyderabad on March 25 declared that all colleges and departments under the university shall remain closed until further notice. According to the reports, the decision is taken following the orders released by the Telangana Government to close all educational institutions amid rising COVID-19 pandemic cases. Following the closure, the university also decided to postpone all ongoing and scheduled examinations. Meanwhile, the students must note that the varsity will release a revised schedule for the examinations later. While announcing the decision regarding the closure, Osmania University released an official notice stating, “As per the Government direction, all the ongoing and scheduled examinations are postponed. The revised schedule will be announced later.”

In a separate official notification, OU said, “All the campus, constituent, affiliated and district PG colleges under the jurisdiction of Osmania University shall remain closed for classwork until further orders.” There are more than 700 colleges affiliated with Osmania University. In order to continue the teaching-learning process, the university said that online classes for undergraduate, postgraduate and professional courses will continue as scheduled. On the same day, the University of Hyderabad (UoH) also asked postgraduate students and research scholars to not return to the university following the government order. It had also put off plans to start classes in blended (online and offline) mode. The University also said that the students who are currently present at the campus can leave if they wish to. Even the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has halted the return of students to campus.
