It must be noted that after the resignation of Professor Raj Kumar as the Vice Chancellor of Panjab University, Professor Vig had taken over as the Acting Vice Chancellor on January 16. On March 21, the Vice President constituted a three-member search-cum-selection committee for recommending names for the post of Vice-Chancellor. Prof Renu Vig’s appointment follows from the committee’s report.
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has appointed Professor (Dr.) Renu Cheema Vig as the new Vice Chancellor of Panjab University. Professor Vig is presently the Dean of the University Instruction (DUI). In accordance with the authority granted by Section 10 of the Panjab University Act 1947, Dhankhar appointed Prof. Vig for a three-year term.

"It is a proud moment for me and I hope girl students are motivated by these turn of events. They should be inspired that they can also hold leadership roles," said Vig.
While speaking about her future plans, Vig said that "her main aim would be giving more flexibility to students by automating some processes; maintaining a balance between skill-oriented and value-based courses; and encouraging self-employment. I want students to lead a balanced life so they can meet the demands of both industry and society."
Former PU VC Prof Arun Kumar Grover said that he had given five names. "Vig is a very good academician and a well-deserving candidate. I am happy that someone with her capability and caliber has been made the PU VC," he said.
