Prof. Najam Khalique of JN Medical College, AMU, has been elected as the Vice President (North) of the Indian Public Health Association (IPHA) for the 2023-2025 term. The election, in which registered life members voted, took place at the IPHA Annual Conference 2023 held in Kolkata.
The event was inaugurated by Dr. C V Ananda Bose, the Governor of West Bengal. Dr. Sanghamitra Ghosh, the association's President, presented Prof. Najam Khalique with the election certificate during the conference.
In his speech, Prof. Najam credited his success to his continuous efforts and dedicated work in the field of Public Health and Preventive Medicine. He also chaired a scientific session on Health System Strengthening Financing and HR (NHSRC) during the conference.
AMU's workshop on Econometric Analysis of Efficiency and Productivity
The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Mohammad Gulrez inaugurated a week-long workshop on "Econometric Analysis of Efficiency and Productivity Using Stochastic Frontier Analysis" organized by the Department of West Asian and North African Studies.
The workshop is sponsored by the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), Department of Science and Technology, Government of India is being organized at the UGC-HRDC Auditorium of the University.
During his inaugural lecture, AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof Mohammad Gulrez, who is also the Patron of the workshop, underscored the importance of such training-based workshops and expressed satisfaction with the recent progress in teaching and research at the university, which is evident from the recent NIRF ranking of the university.
Prof Javaid Iqbal, Dean, Faculty of International Studies, highlighted the achievements of the faculty, while the guest of honour, Prof Athar Ali, Department of Statistics and Operations Research, AMU discussed the role of statistical analysis and the importance of empirical tools in carrying out research. He stressed the use of statistical software, particularly R, for research purposes.
The chief guest, Prof Somesh Kumar Mathur, Department of Economic Sciences, IIT, Kanpur delved into the concept of Efficiency Analysis and provided an overview of this field. He highlighted its wider application and hoped that the workshop would serve as a valuable platform for researchers working in this area.
