Madhya Pradesh Governor Mangubhai Patel has appointed Professor Ram Shankar as the new vice chancellor Pandit SN Shukla University in Shahdol. Professor Ram Shankar is at present working in the Political Science department of Jabalpur-based Rani Durgavati University. The tenure of the vice chancellor is of five years or till he reaches the age of 70, whichever is earlier, he added. 

Pandit SN Shukla University (PTSNS University), was established in 1956 and was declared a full-fledged university in 2016. The university offers courses for graduation, post-graduation, PhD with the experienced faculty members. It also offers 37 courses across 5 streams.

Earlier, the Madhya Pradesh Cabinet had granted in-principle approval to establish a medical college with 100 MBBS seat admission capacity and a 500-bed affiliated hospital. It had also granted a nursing college of 60 seat admission capacity for nursing courses and a paramedical college of 60 seat admission capacity for paramedical courses in Budni Tehsil located in Sehore district.

From the new academic session in Madhya Pradesh, 7 new government medical colleges (GMCs) will be opened in the state. A letter regarding the same will soon sent to the National Medical Commission (NMC) on behalf of the medical colleges. The budget earmarked by the government for these medical colleges is INR 325 crore, of which 60 per cent will be assisted by the Government of India.

While speaking on the same, Director Medical Education Dr Jiten Shukla said, “ work is going on to prepare buildings for these colleges. In preparation, we will apply to the National Medical Commission.”
