Punjab University (PU) has marked probe into five scams that were pending for many years.

Inquiry in five cases of scams in Punjab University was pending for years and now the university has marked a probe in all these cases and directed the officers involved in the probe to come up with people exactly responsible for these scams and also they are asked to suggest the appropriate actions against the culprits.

The scams also include the fake SC/BC certificate scam. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Arvind had organised a press conference on the campus but he has not divulged any details related to the probe. However, as reported by The Tribune, the University held a meeting of the syndicate and Professor Arvind has said that all matters of the probe were presented to the Syndics and they have expressed satisfaction at the progress.

Nearly 105 pending matters of the Career Advancement Scheme were discussed by the Syndicate and in contrast to expectations, these matters did not include the employees who are part of the probe into various scams.

As per the reports, the University has also taken a decision regarding the action to be taken in relation to the SC/BC certificate scam.

After the recent changes in the state government, PU has requested the government to increase its funding grant to INR 20 crore monthly to smoothen its process and also urged to waive its bank loan. The University is also trying to generate more funds from private and government agencies.

The University is looking forward to two major events in the coming time - the convocation which is scheduled to be held on December 9 and visiting of the Chief of Army Staff for celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 1971 India-Pakistan War on December 6.
