Rajasthan Government has asked state-run Universities to carry out plantation of saplings on their campuses, this Independence Day.
The Rajasthan Governor Kalraj Mishra has asked all the state-run universities to carry out plantation of saplings on their campuses, soon after the flag hoisting is done on the 74th Independence Day. More than 88,000 saplings have been given to the state universities for the plantation drive, a statement said.
The Minister also asked the Universities to ensure that the social distancing and other health guidelines are followed in view of the coronavirus pandemic The Governor has directed the Vice-chancellors to set up a committee in their Universities to look after the plants, the statement added.
The University of Rajasthan in Jaipur and Mohanlal Sukhadia University in Udaipur will plant 1,500 saplings each. Similarly, other Universities too will plant the saplings allotted to them by the Raj Bhawan, the statement said.
Governor Mishra earlier said that Independence Day will not be held this year due to the rising number of coronavirus cases in the state. The Independence Day ‘At Home’ programme is usually held at Raj Bhavan every year on August 15.
This year's celebrations will be a severely restricted affair, both in the national capital and across the country, in light of the coronavirus pandemic that has infected over 22.68 lakh people.
From Independence Day to the academic year in the schools, everything has been severely affected due to coronavirus outbreak in the country. Across the country, schools have also started conducting online classes to avoid any further academic loss of the students due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. There is no clarity as of now, that when the schools will be opened.
