The Master of Law student at the varsity has alleged that Professor Ravindra Pratap had made a comment over a personal phone call where he said, “'When a doctor takes off the clothes of the patient, the doctor doesn't do so with the intention of molesting the patient, rather it is out of care. Similarly, a teacher and a student share a fiduciary relationship and you must trust me."

A South Asian University student has written a letter to Dr. S. Jaishankar, the Union Minister of External Affairs, pleading for his involvement in the case of alleged sexual harassment that occurred with her by a professor at the institution. She said in a series of tweets that she had turned to the Ministry of External Affairs for assistance because the university had not acted despite her repeated concerns.

“I wrote to Ministry of External Affairs seeking their intervention as South Asian University is an inter-governmental educational institution and only Ministry of External affairs overlooks the functions of South Asian University as one of the countries part of SAAR,” she tweeted.

“When none of the administrators took any action against Ravindra Pratap, I questioned the faculty of the Department of Legal Studies, SAU, about their silence only to met with continued and wilful silence by Dr. Ramani Garimella, Dr. Srinivas Burra, Dr. Stellina Jolly and Dr. Nafees,” she tweeted.

She has also alleged that when she requested the university administration to constitute a committee to look into the matter, they blocked all her emails and the professor was made dean of the faculty of legal studies at the varsity. “Within half a day after I raised an allegation of sexual harassment against Prof. Ravindra Pratap, he was made dean of faculty of legal studies at South Asian University,” she tweeted.
