Telangana University VC arrested for accepting bribe of INR 50,000

Telangana University Vice-Chancellor, Dachepalli Ravinder, was arrested on Saturday for allegedly accepting INR 50,000 in bribes from a member of an educational society.

He has been arrested by the anti-corruption bureau on charges of accepting a bribe of INR 50,000 at his residence in Hyderabad.

As per reports, the 63-year-old VC had demanded and accepted a bribe of INR 50,000 from Dasari Shankar for allotting an examination centre to the complainant's college at Bheemgal for 2022-23.

Officials said that in this case, a complainant had informed about the bribe. It is alleged that the Vice-Chancellor had demanded a bribe in lieu of allotting an examination centre in Bhimgal for 2022-23. The bribe amount was said to have been recovered from the closet of his master bedroom, officials said.

"It has been written in the complaint that the VC demanded a bribe first and then received it. The said amount was recovered from the cupboard kept in the bedroom of the Vice-Chancellor's house," said the officials.

Recently, the Vice Chancellor and the executive committee of the varsity were at loggerheads over the appointment of the Registrar to Telangana University, as reported by NDTV.
