The new campus of IIT Jammu, built at a cost of INR 210 crore, has all facilities such as hostel, gymnasium, indoor games, and higher education for the students.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the new campus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jammu on Sunday. Shah was accompanied by Union ministers Jitendra Singh and Dharmendra Pradhan and Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
This was his visit first to Jammu and Kashmir after the Centre revoked the erstwhile state’s special status and bifurcated it into union territories on August 5, 2019. Officials said the new campus of IIT Jammu, built at a cost of INR 210 crore, has all facilities such as hostel, gymnasium, indoor games, and higher education for the students.
After inaugurating the new campus of the IIT Jammu, Shah reached addressed a public rally at the Bhagwati Nagar area. Policemen and paramilitary personnel were deployed in strength in and around the venue. An official of the IIT Jammu said, “It is a state-of-the-art research centre to cater to students of various disciplines. It is meant for research and development.”
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan tweeted Amit Shah dedicated Phase 1A and 1B of the permanent campus of IIT Jammu and Saptarshi, a multidisciplinary research centre. Shah also laid the foundation stone for the construction of the last phase 1C of the permanent campus. "Phase 1A & 1B of IIT Jammu has been developed at a total cost of Rs 210 crore. Phase 1C is estimated to be developed at a total cost of over Rs 700.19 crore," Pradhan tweeted.
On Saturday, Amit Shah held a key security meeting with the top civil administration officials, including Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, and senior security officials from the Army, CRPF, police and other agencies. He also inaugurated a direct international flight service between Srinagar and Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates.
