After the vandalisation of Dr Zakir Husain Library on December 15, the library has been opened. The central library has been reopened after its broad face-lift and renovation. The move was hugely appreciated by the student community of the varsity. The library has a seating capacity of approximately 800 people. It consists of a research floor, reading hall, periodical and reference section and well-equipped digital resource centre, consisting of 150 computers. The central library restarted all its service from Wednesday. The textbook and research sections of the library are opened till midnight and see a huge number of gathering.

According to a statement from the university, the effort has been made by offering improved amenities to students by installing LED lights and offering new and comfortable chairs, a statement from the JMI said. The statement further added that the library planned to support its user services in the coming days by heavily leveraging information and communication technologies. It further stated that despite heavy odds, the library had been able to use its budgetary allocation completely and renew its subscription to electronic databases.

The period of nearly three months during which the library stayed closed was utilised for augmenting the operation of a large number of Faculty and Departmental Libraries by delegating there the staff of Central Library. The free time was also utilised to transfer library management software to an open-source software from the commercial one for more effective assimilation and discovery of resources.
