Complete internship in hospitals attached to own colleges: MUHS

The Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) has said that medical students in the state will now have to complete their 12-month internship in hospitals attached to the colleges from where they are pursuing MBBS courses.

The Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) has issued a circular to put an end to the confusion and said that the medical students in the state will now have to complete their mandatory 12-month internship in hospitals attached to the medical colleges from where they are pursuing their medical courses.

Following this notification, now students and their parents do not have many choices or preferences to complete the internship.

MUHS circular is based on NMC's revised internship guidelines

Earlier, medical students were allowed externships which means the opportunity to complete the internships in hospitals attached to other colleges and universities. However, as per the revised guidelines of the National Medical Commission (NMC), now it is not allowed and hence, MUHS also released this circular following the NMC's guidelines.

“After the new gazette on compulsory rotating medical internships regulations was declared by the NMC, the same was discussed in the academic council of the MUHS. As per the decision taken, all medical colleges are informed that the process of changing the medical college for internships which was allowed as per the amendments in the academic notification in 2012 will now be stopped for degree courses. This will be applicable from the date of the circular,” said the circular.
