On account of the fear of coronavirus pandemic, schools have been closed in all the states. To compensate for the loss of learning, students can move towards e-learning. Students can switch to the UMANG mobile app of the Indian government. The app provides over 1 crore e-books, videos, and audios on all subjects for the students of primary and secondary schools. By means of e-pathshala portal of NCERT, students can get access to books and study materials that can be accessed from the UMANG app.

Students can get the app from Android, iOS as well as Windows platforms. From the app stores, students can download it for free. Under the government’s Digital India scheme, e-Pathshala was launched in the year 2015. The erstwhile Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani launched it on November 7, 2015. The app consists of e-textbooks for class 1 to class 12 together with supplementary reading material. The app interface can be accessed in Hindi, English and Urdu. As of January 27, 2020 over 5 crore people have visited the e-Pathshala.

The learning interface is student-friendly. Students will get the option to select the text, highlight selected portions, change the font and colour, zoom the page, and can also bookmark. It has options to cater to the needs of school-going children including children with special needs. Apart from this, it also consists of Text to Speech application where audiobooks and machine-readable books can be listened to. On e-Pathshala, overall 696 e-Publications and 504 Flipbooks (teachers handbook, e-Textbooks, manuals and supplementary reading materials) are available.
