The Chief Minister also appealed to the people to not panic over the rise in Omicron cases and follow COVID-19 appropriate behaviour.

Owing to the rise in COVID-19 cases, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has announced holidays in all educational institutions from January 8 to 16. During a meeting with ministers and officials on the rising COVID-19 cases in the state, the Chief Minister said beds, oxygen-supported beds, medicines and testing kits be procured as required, according to an official release. He also decided to set up more 'Basti Dawakhanas' (clinics in residential localities) across the state to provide medical services to common people.

The Chief Minister also appealed to the people to not panic over the rise in Omicron cases and follow COVID-19 appropriate behaviour. Health officials informed Chief Minister Rao that a lockdown is not necessary at present according to the Centre's guidelines. He was told that gatherings should be avoided and precautions should be taken without fail, the official release stated.

The officials briefed the Chief Minister that the State government is fully prepared to deal with the fresh wave of Covid. The Chief Minister directed the officials to convert all the beds in government hospitals to oxygen beds.

The authorities have already converted 99 per cent of the beds and efforts are on to replace the remaining one per cent beds with oxygen beds on a war-footing. While the oxygen production has been increased from 140 tonnes to 324 tonnes currently, the Chief Minister wanted it to be scaled up to 500 tonnes at the earliest. He asked them to make one crore home isolation kits and two crore testing kits to be available for distribution.
