TOEFL and GRE are crucial exams to take admissions in top universities across the globe.
Amid the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, in order to prevent large gatherings, students will be appearing for global exams such as TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) and GRE (Test of English as a Foreign Language) from home. TOEFL and GRE are crucial exams to take admissions in top universities across the globe. However, the same procedure will not be followed in mainland China and Iran. According to the Educational Testing Service (ETS), the decision to conduct these exams from home is taken concerning the health and safety of the students due to the COVID-19 spread. The virus spread had already postponed the tests across the globe.
Now, the authorities have come up with this ‘at-home’ solution to conduct the exams. The executive director of the TOEFL Programme, Srikant Gopal, stated that the 'at-home' solution will now be worldwide for test-takers who are affected due to the outbreak of the pandemic COVID-19. The authorities will conduct both TOEFL and GRE from home until the situation comes under control to conduct exams at the centre.
While talking about the credibility of the results, the director said that precautions are being taken to ensure that the tests taken by the students at home meet the highest standards for validity, reliability and security. These tests employ multiple best-in-class security measures that use both real-time human monitoring and artificial intelligence technology.
The outbreak of novel coronavirus led to a nationwide lockdown until April 14 to control the virus spread. The total number of positive coronavirus cases has reached 2,586 in the country, claiming 73 lives so far.
