Cyclone Jawad: Schools to remain closed in 19 Odisha districts

 The Odisha government has ordered closure of schools in 19 districts of the state in view of the upcoming cyclonic storm ‘Jawad’.  The 19 districts where the schools will remain shut are Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Nayagarh, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Koraput, Rayagada, Cuttack, Khurda, Kandhamal, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Malkangiri and Mayurbhanj.  

Conduct exams with utmost care’ 

As per an order issued by the School and Mass Education Department, all government, aided, and private schools affiliated with the department in 19 districts of Odisha will be shut for December 4 in view of cyclone ‘Jawad’. 

However, the state government has also said that if there is any exam schedule planned earlier, it may be conducted with utmost care under the supervision of the district administration. 

There is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rain in all the above districts under reference or in isolated places. The students should not come to school,” the order read. 

The cyclone Jawad is likely to reach north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha on Saturday (December 4) and Puri is likely to witness heavy rains on Sunday (December 5), said the India Meteorological Department (IMD). 

IIFT Entrance Exam postponed 

Meanwhile, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has postponed the entrance exam for admission to MBA courses at the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) due to the cyclone Jawad. The exam has been postponed only in selected exam centres which are feared to be affected by the cyclone. IIFT exam will not be held in Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and West Bengal on December 5. The exam will not be held in Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Bhubaneshwar, Sambalpur, Cuttack, Kolkata and Durgapur.
