Member of Parliament, Dayanidhi Maran has asked the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare about the delay in the All India Institute Of Medical Science (AIIMS) Madurai project.

In the Parliament session, Dayanidhi Maran, Member of Parliament, has asked the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare regarding the delay in establishing of All India Institute Of Medical Science (AIIMS), Madurai.

He said in the Parliament, "Two years back Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself laid the foundation stone of AIIMS Madurai. Now the ministers say that it is going to be completed in 2026 and the college is going to take temporary occupation of other government colleges to place the student. So the question is students and parents choose AIIMS expecting better infrastructures as compared to other medical colleges in India. In this situation, you don't have a campus and it is very clear that the first batch of students will never sit in the AIIMS Madurai campus as the building will be completed by 2026. Is not it injustice and compromise with these students who will join here expecting the same level of infrastructure as AIIMS Delhi?"

"There are so many cases in Supreme Court where licenses have been cancelled as the colleges don't have their own buildings and even National Medical Council clearly support cancelling such licenses than how can AIIMS Madurai and others borrowing building space from another government medical colleges. How can you be excluded and if you are excluded you should also allow other private medical colleges to do so. Is there any law which is accepting such practices by the government medical colleges?"

Dayanidhi Maran tweet reads, "Raised questions to @MoHFW_INDIA about the delays in the Madurai AIIMS project & the injustice to students by conducting classes elsewhere on interim basis. It is disheartening to see that several AIIMS announced much later are progressing faster while Madurai AIIMS languishes."
