School reopening: The decision may be taken soon as a large number of students have been vaccinated against COVID-19 and also, the number of COVID cases is declining, said Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.
Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has hinted at putting forward a proposal to the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) to reopen schools in Delhi as most of the students have been vaccinated against COVID.
He said 85 per cent of government school students in in Delhi have been inoculated against the virus and pointed out that vaccination drive in private schools of the state was going on at slow pace as only 42 per cent students in private schools have been vaccinated till January 21.
Sisodia said private schools have about 3.5 lakh students eligible for COVID-19 vaccination, but not even 2 lakh have been vaccinated so far. Not only private schools, even aided schools have not done well on the vaccination front as only 57 per cent of students have been vaccinated in aided schools, he said.
The vaccination of students between the age group of 15 and 18 years started on January 3, 2022. Sisodia said that vaccination is the most effective way to protect oneself against COVID and hence, it is extremely important that all eligible students get vaccinated at the earliest.
“In 12 out of the 15 education districts, 85 per cent students of government schools in Delhi have been vaccinated and there are about 300 schools where 90 per cent eligible students have received the jab,” he said.
