Delhi University: Students injured in protest at SOL
Students were protesting regarding various issues being faced by them.
Delhi University’s School of Open Learning saw an ugly fight ensued between the administration and some protesting students in which some students got injured and police had to be called to intervene in the matter.
As per a students association, Krantikari Yuva Sangathan (KYS), a delegation of two protestors went inside the SOL building to submit their memorandum to the SOL administration regarding various issues being faced by the students. The SOL administration confined them in the building by locking the gates.
On the other hand, according to Uma Shankar Pandey, the Principal of SOL some students held a demonstration outside the SOL building at main gate number 1 and blocked the traffic as well as disturbed the students support services of the school.
Later some of these students entered the SOL building and misbehaved with female security guards and other staff of the school. The agitators also climbed the top of the main gate and shouted slogans against the college authority.
However, KYS has alleged that the SOL administration confined the students in the building by locking the gates, abusing them and violently attacking the students in the office of the Acting Principal Uma Shankar Pandey in his presence as well as that of a Police constable who accompanied the delegation. “In this attack, the arm of a young SOL student got fractured, and his medical checkup and preliminary treatment were done in Hindu Rao hospital,” alleged KYS.
KYS has demanded Delhi University sack the SOL Principal for his alleged criminal conduct. “DU and SOL must issue a public apology for this condemnable incident and adopt a zero-tolerance policy to ensure such an incident does not occur ever again,” KYS has demanded.
