How to prepare for NIFT 2023 - Step-wise process to ace the design entrance exam

The NIFT exam is attempted by around 30,000 candidates, making it the most competitive in the country. Here are some useful tips to prepare for the exam.

The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) will conduct the NIFT 2023 entrance exam tentatively in the 1st week of February. With around 6 months or so left to go before the conduct of the exam, it is right time for candidates to start their preparation (in case if they haven’t already). Note that the NIFT question paper for the B.Des program will include a Creative Ability Test (CAT) and General Ability Test (GAT). It is mandatory for candidates to appear in both papers. 

Typically, the exam is conducted in paper-based mode, but given the pandemic situation, the last edition of the exam was held remotely. The NIFT 2023 exam is likely to be conducted in pen-and-paper mode; but that being said, candidates need to be ready for any eventuality. 

How to prepare for the NIFT 2023 exam 

Get familiar with the syllabus and pattern - The syllabus will tell the candidates what to prepare, while the exam pattern will tell how to prepare. The CAT paper will include drawing questions, so the candidate needs to practice all the drawing forms. The GAT test meanwhile will include questions from sections like English Comprehension, Quantitative Ability, GK and Current Affairs.

Solve sample and question papers - While the NIFT 2023 question paper may not include the same types of questions as given in the sample papers, this exercise is nonetheless crucial to improve one’s problem-solving ability, time management, and test one’s progress.

Take mock tests - Mocks are usually taken closer to the exam and are a way to test one exam readiness. However, mock scores can be sometimes deceptive, especially if one takes only one or two mocks. Further, in some cases, mock questions may not be of exam standard. 

Take rest and stay rejuvenated - While it is important to maintain pace, it is equally important to take care of one’s health. So, drink enough water, take breaks during the study, do some mild exercise, and stay positive.
