The National Institute of Design (NID) will conduct the NID DAT 2025 (Prelims) exam on January 5, 2025. The exam will be held in an offline, paper-and-pencil, mode. NID DAT is among the most important and toughest design entrance exams in the country. So, the candidate can’t afford to take their foot off the pedal at any preparation stage, especially now!

How to prepare for NID DAT 2025 in Two Months
- Go through the exam syllabus and pattern - If you haven’t already, do it now. It is because if you don’t follow the NID DAT 2025 syllabus or pattern, you will be lost in the maze as what to study and what not to study. Also, how you study is an equally important factor in how you fare in the exam.
- Make a study timetable - Two months is not a lot of time. But if you are judicious enough and know how to utilize it, you can extract the maximum out of the remaining time. Make a timetable taking into account how much of the syllabus remains to be covered, the areas you are lagging, topics or concepts that carry maximum weightage, etc.
- Take notes during study - This exercise will ensure you are always fully engaged and not simply building up the numbers. Also, the notes that you are taking now will come in handy in the last few days leading up to the exam as they can be used for quick revision. But for that to happens, you need to make sure that the notes are well made and include all the key points in a chapter.
- Solve sample papers - At this stage of NID exam preparation, it is most likely that you have covered more or less half of the syllabus. So, now is the time to solve as many NID DAT 2025 sample papers you can. The more sample papers you solve, the better you will understand the underlying concepts. Also, your problem-solving and time-management skills will improve drastically if you put in enough effort.
- Take mock tests - Mocks are somewhat similar to sample papers, yet they serve a completely different purpose. These tests can help you get acclimatized to mode and nature of the exam. You can also align your body clock with the exam timings if you match the timings of the mock test.
- Work on creativity and drawing skills - DAT will also test your creative and observation skills. So, you need to work on that aspect as well.

NID evaluates aspirants based on their knowledge, creativity and aptitude for design. Experts share that NID is one of the most challenging design entrance exams conducted in the country. However, if prepared well, the difficulty level of NID Entrance Exam is medium. On of the main reasons why NID is such a competitive exam is there are very limited number of seats. For instance, there are only 425 seats available for the BDes programme through NID. In contrast, the NIFTs offer 2748 seats.

The NID Entrance Exam is considered to be one of the toughest design entrance exam conducted in the country. In NID DAT, more weightage is given to subjective, drawing related questions. Thus, candidates need to be extremely creative and have a clear understanding of their concepts when appearing for the NID exam.
For preparing the final results for the B. Des program, the DAT Prelims will be allocated 40% weightage, while DAT Mains will be given 60%.
During the DAT Mains, which comprises a Studio Test, the candidate is tested hands-on and have to show their drawing abilities, creativity, innovativeness, and material-handling ability.
