NIFT 2023 Exam Live Updates: CAT & GAT Analysis, Student Reaction, Expected Cut-off & Answer Key

NIFT officials will give candidates from the following exam centers an opportunity to retake the GAT paper.

• MBC THANE - MUMBAI
• VIDHAN PUBLIC SCHOOL - GHAZIABAD
• M.P ENGLISH SCHOOL - VARANASI
• P.T. SALAGRAM - NOIDA 

However, there will be no re-exam for the CAT paper.

The allotment of seats to various programs will be based on the following parameter:

• The category 
• Merit rank in NIFT 2023
• Campus selected during choice filling
• Seat intake
• Any other rules that may be applicable

To participate in the counseling process, the candidate must have qualified in the NIFT 2023 entrance exam and must have been assigned a common merit rank (CMR).

Additionally, the candidate also has to meet academic, age limit, and other criteria prescribed at the time of filling the application form.

A revised answer key may be released if any of the keys mentioned in the original of draft answer key is incorrect.

To download the revised answer key, follow these steps:

• Click on the answer key download tab on the NIFT 2023 admission portal
• A log-in window will open
• Enter your roll number, program, question booklet number, and date of birth.

The NIFT 2023 answer key will contain the official keys to all the questions asked in the GAT written test.

To calculate probable scores, the candidate must consult the NIFT 2023 question paper and answer keys, and then calculate the number of correct attempts.

Finally, the candidate may allocate marks as per the NIFT 2023 exam pattern to arrive at the probable score.

If the candidate has any objection against the draft answer key, then he or she may raise objections against the key (s) through the admission portal.

To submit objections, the candidate will have to pay INR 500 per objection. However, if the objection is found to be valid, the amount will be refunded.

The admission cut-off for NIFT 2023 will be released at the time of counseling and seat allotment. 

Criteria for determining the cut-off

• The seat intake for the program selected for admission
• The NIFT 2023 merit rank of the candidate
• The category under which admission is sought
• The total number of applicants
• Previous years’ cutoff details.

The counseling process for NIFT 2023 will commence in May 2023. Candidates shortlisted for admission will have to get their document verified and pay the admission fees.

The allotment of seats will be based on the Common Merit Rank (CMR) of the candidate in NIFT 2023.

The paper was very easy, especially compared to last year. 

The English section was easier than last year,

In CAT, you can have to make designs of letterboxes, phones, an automobile, etc.

Logical reasoning had the maximum number of questions; especially the maths-based ones.

The GAT paper wasn’t lengthy.

As far as technical issues in the GAT paper are concerned, I didn’t face any. A few students did face some technical issues.

I found the CAT paper easy. Questions related to shapes and lines were asked. The comic strip was also easier this year.

As far as GAT is concerned, the paper was not very difficult, though there were more paragraph-based questions. The paper had more questions from English and also a few questions from GK.

Maths part I found a bit difficult.

The overall difficulty level of the exam was moderate.

The CAT paper was really very easy and not lengthy at all. GAT was fine, with a few difficulties in maths, but the paper was otherwise OK.

Given the paper was easy, the cut-off would be high.

The GK section had one question related to ISRO.

The CAT exam will conclude at 4.30 pm. With that, the written exams will conclude, as the GAT paper was conducted earlier in the day today, from 9.30 am -11.30 am.

The next phase of the admission round is the Situation Test / Personal interviews. Shortlisting for the next round will be done on the basis of NIFT 2023 written exam scores.

The Situation Test is conducted for the B.Des program only and is the 2nd stage of the NIFT admission process. Candidates will be shortlisted for the Situation Test based on their performance in the written exams.

The Situation Test will be conducted in an offline mode.

• Test type: The CAT is a sketching-based test that will be conducted in offline mode.
• Duration: The test will be 3 hours long.
• Skills evaluated: The exam will examine the intuition skill, power of observation, innovation in the development of a concept as well as design ability of candidates. Additionally, the creative and innovative use of color and illustration skills of aspirants will also be judged.

• The CAT test will evaluate the intuitive ability, power of observation concept development and design ability of the candidate. An important aspect of the test is the creative and innovative use of color and illustration skills
• It may be noted that the students can’t disclose their identity in any way during the course of the exam, whether by marking on the answer sheet or by some other way. found guilty, the candidate can be disqualified.

Among the top design entrance exams along with NIFT and UCEED, the NID DAT Prelims exam was held on January 8, 2023.

The scores of the Prelims exam will be used to shortlist candidates for the DAT Mains!

The UCEED 2023 exam was held on January 22, 2023. Candidates may note that the Part B answer booklets will only be evaulated if the candidate qualifies Part A.

Also, also such candidates who meet the cut-off will be shortlisted and assigned a merit rank.

The Creative Ability Test (CAT), which is a written exam is being conducted from 1.30 - 4.30 pm. The exam will be administered in offline mode and include sketching-based questions.

B.Des and M.Des candidates need to appear in both the CAT and the GAT.

The CAT paper will be conducted for the B.Des and M.Des courses. The reporting time for the exam was 12.30 pm; the exam starts at 1.30 pm.

Once the exam commences, late comers may not be allowed inside the exam hall.

According to Prerna, there were some server issues due to which some candidates couldn’t complete the paper.

The exam authority, as per Prerna, will conduct the paper separately for such candidates.

Shreya chimed in said that the NID DAT 2023 paper was much easier compared to the NIFT 2023 question paper,

Many students aso were saying the paper was harder than even UCEED 2023!

One candidate, Shreya, says that only 4-5 questions were asked from the GK section.

The answer keys for the GAT written exam will be released in online mode at niftadmissions.in. To download the answer keys, the candidate needs to follow the given steps:

1. Go to the NIFT 2023 admission portal - niftadmissions.in
2. Click on the answer key link
3. Log-in using your user id and password
4. After log-in, you can download the answer key.

The answer key for the GAT written test will be released in the 2nd week of February 2023. It will contain the official keys to all the questions asked in the computer-based exam.

Admission officials will also release the NIFT 2023 GAT question paper along with the answer keys. 

The GAT paper analysis of the NIFT 2023 exam will cover the following points:

The merit list of NIFT 2023 will be prepared for the various programs based on the following table.

The GAT written test, which is common for all courses, concluded at 11.30 am; the exam commenced at 9.30.

The GAT paper is being conducted in a computer-based mode, so there will be no hard copies of the question paper booklet that the candidate can take away.

However, NIFT officials will release the question paper along with the answer keys for the GAT written test in the 2nd week of February 2023. It can be downloaded through the NIFT 2023 admission portal using one’s user id and password.

The GAT written test will conclude at 11.30 am. So, candidates are now left with 30 minutes on their clock to complete the paper.

After completion of the GAT paper, B.Des and M.Des candidates need to reassemble again as they have the CAT paper from 1.30-4.30 pm.

For other candidates, Phase 1 is over.

There is negative marking only for the GAT written test. 

For every wrong attempt in the paper, the candidate will be penalized 25% marks.

Note that the CAT will be a subjective paper and there is no negative marking.

The NIFT has some seats reserved for NRI/Foreign candidates. Admission under this category will be conducted as per the schedule given below.

The Creative Ability Test or CAT will be conducted on the same day as GAT, which is today.

The CAT will be held from 1.30 pm - 4.30 pm.

Candidates need to report for the exam at 12.30 pm.

The written exams for the national-level design entrance exam is being conducted in 37 cities across the country. Note that each of these exam cities may have one or more test centres.

The details of the exam centre allotted to the candidate will be mentioned on the admit card.

List of NIFT 2023 exam centres:

The exam conducting body has postulated some strict guidelines for candidates appearing in the NIFT 2023 exam. These include.

• The candidate mustn’t carry written material, including textbooks, hidden papers, etc. inside the exam venue.
• Avoid adopting unfair means like cheating.
• Refrain from disturbing or assisting other candidates.
• Not following instructions given by the exam invigilator.

Any of the above anomalies can lead to the disqualification of the candidate.

The name and address of the exam center allocated to the candidate will be mentioned on the NIFT 2023 admit card, along with the exam center code.

Additionally, the admit card will contain exam-day guidelines that candidates need to follow. Note that the admit card is provisional in nature.

On the day of the NIFT 2023 exam, the candidate needs to follow the following guidelines:

• Document checklist - The candidate needs to carry with them the NIFT 2023 admit card and a valid photo ID proof.
• Stationery items - The candidate must bring their own stationery items, including pen, pencil, and erasers.
• Reporting time - The NIFT 2023 admit card will contain the reporting times for the CAT and GAT written exams; it is important that the candidate sticks to the mentioned time.
• Barred Items - The candidate mustn’t carry anu electronic items, like smartphones, smartwatches, camera, calculators, etc, with them inside the exam venue. Also, in the barred items list include written text, books, or any items that may provide the candidate with an undue advantage over other candidates in the exam.
• Cheating, helping, or disturbing other candidates - Such kind of activities may lead to the disqualification of the candidate from the admission process.
• Attempting the paper - The candidate must attempt the easy questions first and then move on the difficult questions. Also, if the candidate is not able to solve a problem, it is wise not to waste too much time on the question, but rather move on to the next question. If there is time left at the end, the candidate may come back and try that question once more.

The General Ability Test (GAT) is mandatory for all courses - B.Des, M.Des, B.F.Tech, M.F.Tech, and M.F.M courses.

Candidates must report for the GAT exam at: 8.30 am.

Note that there are exam formalities to be completed, including identity verification, registration, and frisking. So, it is recommended that the candidate is not late for the exam.

To appear in the NIFT 2023 written exams, the candidate must bring with them the following documents:

• The NIFT 2023 admit card 
• A valid photo ID proof.

Note that candidates will not be allowed inside the exam hall without these documents.

The admit cards for the NIFT 2023 were released on January 16, 2023. The candidate must download and take a printout of the NIFT 2023 admit card and bring it with them on exam day. Additionally, the candidate must also bring with them valid photo id proof. 

The NIFT 2023 exam will be conducted on February 5, 2023. The exam includes two written tests - GAT and CAT.
