Drone corridor to link AIIMS Delhi and Jhajjar

To reduce the time in supplying the medical facilities between All India Institute Of Medical Science (AIIMS) Delhi and Jhajjar from one and half hours to a few minutes, both the locations can be linked through a drone corridor before year end. It will make rushing life-saving supplies from the parent campus to AIIMS Jhajjar a minutes job.

As per the TOI report, senior aviation ministry officials said the ministry and the Airports Authority of India have approved this plan. "AIIMS is waiting (some) other approvals. Once that happens test flights will be carried out. If all goes well, regular drone flights may start in about six months," said the official.

In emergency, drone corridor can transport organs

The drone corridor would be used for transporting medicines, blood samples and blood products. This will make medical supplies easy even during rush traffic hours. In case of emergency, it could also be used to transport organs.

A panel discussion was conducted during the Bharat Drone Mahotsav, India's biggest drone festival. Some of the challenges which are still being discussed are biosafety and maintaining the appropriate temperature of blood samples during transportation.

"The AIIMS project for rushing life-saving medical supplies through drones is excellent. If it succeeds, other medical institutions in various states can replicate the same model for better utilisation technology and equipment,” said Dr Harsh Mahajan, founder and chief radiologist of Mahajan Imaging.
