DU BTech Courses: The University of Delhi is yet to get approval from the Union ministry of education for introducing BTech courses. As the approval is yet to be received, the varsity has not released any official notification regarding DU BTech Admissions. Three engineering courses — BTech in computer science, electronics and communication and electrical engineering were cleared by DU’s statutory body in December 2021.
INR 100 Crore from UGC to introduce BTech courses
DU had sought INR 100 crore from University Grants Commission, according to TOI. It further revamped the Faculty of Technology and appointed a new head appointed. The university had also announced the setting up of new academic blocks for these new departments. DU had also set up a committee to draft course content and structure.
After Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi University would be the next to introduce BTech courses. Apart from the BTech courses, the DU website has also listed the departments of applied sciences and humanities, architecture and planning, instrumentation and control engineering, civil engineering, production and industrial engineering and mechanical engineering.
TOI informed that with the introduction of the four-year undergraduate programme (FYUP) in 2013, the university had run BTech courses in 27 colleges. Later, when FYUP was withdrawn, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) allowed the batch to complete their course. The university then ran BTech courses in computer science, electronics, food technology, instrumentation electronics and allied papers and polymer science.
While the varsity wants to introduce BTech from this academic session, approval is yet to be received. DU has not notified admissions to BTech as they are waiting for approval from the ministry of education for funds and manpower. Like other engineering colleges and the set process, DU will also admit students through the Joint Entrance Examination Main (JEE).
