The Head of the Chemistry Department said that PhD students have been coming to the campus for laboratory work and that is why the department has decided to hold offline exams.

Delhi University's Chemistry department students have come requested the head of the department to not conduct the exams in offline mode owing to the new variant of the COVID-19. Over 40 students have written a letter to the head of the department, stating that if the online exams are not possible, the department could consider extending the date by a week. They further said many students are not present on the campus and many are not even comfortable coming and writing the offline exams due to this new variant of COVID-19.

While responding to the request, the Head of the Chemistry Department, said that PhD students have been coming to the campus for laboratory work and that is why the department has decided to hold offline exams.

It is not possible to hold online exams. However, we can consider extending the date by a week, Sharma told PTI. The exams are scheduled to begin on December 10.

Meanwhile, Delhi University commenced the Online Open Book Exam (OBE) with around 46,000 students appearing for the exams. As per the reports, the DU OBE 2021 went smoothly except few technical glitches.

"Almost 46,000 students took the exams and there were nearly 100 submissions through email which is a very small number. The maximum number of email submissions were from Rajdhani College at 63 while the minimum email submissions were from Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College at one," said D S Rawat, Dean (Examinations) of the university.

Delhi University had earlier released the guidelines for the students appearing for the DU OBE exam. As per the guidelines, students were supposed to submit the answer sheets on the OBE portal only. Students were also advised not to use any unfair means while writing the exam as the varsity has placed a special system to detect copying/use of unfair means in the examination.
