Education Ministry Constitutes 22 member High Powered Committee on IKS

The High Powered Committee (HPC) will be an apex body that shall meet once in a quarter or as decided by the President of this Committee to monitor the outcomes, give directions to the implementation committee and report the progress and outcomes, the letter stated.

Ministry of Education, Department of Higher Education has constituted a 22-member High Powered Committee (HPC) of Indian Knowledge System. In an official letter to the Chairman of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), the Ministry of Education has shared all the names of this High Powered Committee. According to the official letter, Dr Radhakrishnan, Former Chairman of ISRO, Chairman Board of Governors, llT Kanpur is the Chairman of the Committee, while Minister of Education, Dharmendra Pradhan is the President of the Committee, followed by Professor Anil Sahasrabuddhe as the Vice Chairman.

Other members include Chairman, UGC; Chairman, AICTE and Director, NCERT who will be the Ex-Officio Members.

The list of members also includes eminent names from the field of education such as Prof Michel Danino, llT Gandhinagar; Prof Himanshu Rai, Director, llM lndore; Prof H C Varma, Former Prof of Physics, llT Kanpur; Prof B Mahadevan, llM Banglore; Prof Geshe Ngawang Samten, VC, Central lnstitute of Higher Tibetian Studies, Sarnath, etc.

Commenting on being among the 22-member committee constituted by the Education Ministry itself, IIM Indore Director, Professor Himanshu Rai said, "Being a part of the HPC constituted by the MoE has given me yet another opportunity to contribute to the Indian education system and nation-building. Together, we will steer the IKS and offer recommendations to carry out the mandate of the committee and help build a nation that takes pride in its heritage."

The High Powered Committee (HPC) will perform the following functions:

  • Guidance for policy framework of IKS functioning.
  • Facilitating lntra Ministry of Education (MoE) and lnter ministerial coordination.
  • ldentify and make available needed financial resources.
  • Approve the recommendations and decisions of the lmplementation committee.
  • Based on the recommendation of the lmplementation committee, action plan and deliverables, project the budgetary requirements to MoE.
  • Any other functions as decided from time to time.

The High Powered Committee (HPC) will be an apex body that shall meet once in a quarter or as decided by the President of this Committee to monitor the outcomes, give directions to the implementation committee and report the progress and outcomes, the letter further stated.

“lt will supersede the earlier constituted High-Level Committee of the Indian Knowledge Systems (lKS),” the letter added.
