The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has officially introduced the Final Model Curriculum for Undergraduate Textile Engineering Courses and released the Draft Model Curriculum for Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) Programs for public feedback. This dual initiative highlights AICTE’s dedication to providing advanced educational frameworks that not only boost employability but also promote innovation and support entrepreneurial development.
The launch of the Textile Engineering Model Curriculum was overseen by AICTE Chairman, Prof. T.G. Sitharam, in collaboration with the Expert Committee led by Prof. Abhijit Majumdar, who played a key role in developing the curriculum. The event was also attended by AICTE Vice Chairman Dr. Abhay Jere and Member Secretary Prof. Rajive Kumar.
In his keynote address, Prof. Sitharam emphasized that the finalised curriculum is in line with AICTE’s mission to equip students for the rapidly changing textile industry. The curriculum seamlessly blends foundational courses in science and engineering with specialized topics such as textile technology, sustainability, nanotechnology, smart textiles, and technical textiles.
Textile Engineering Curriculum
A notable aspect of the curriculum is its strong focus on practical learning, highlighted by a summer internship program designed to provide students with hands-on experience in industrial environments. Additionally, the curriculum includes elective courses that delve into emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and the circular economy, ensuring that students are well-prepared to address current and future challenges.
Universities are also encouraged to introduce additional electives, such as minor specializations and micro-credit courses, allowing students to pursue 18-20 credit specializations in interdisciplinary areas. This flexibility enables students to gain a broader understanding of the textile industry, enhancing their employability and industry relevance.
Draft of BCA Curriculum Released for Public Opinion
In addition to the Textile Engineering curriculum, AICTE also launched the Draft Model Curriculum for Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA). This draft is now open for public feedback and aims to incorporate the latest global trends in computing education. The draft curriculum features a balanced mix of computing fundamentals and industry-relevant courses. It includes summer internships, a mandatory three-week induction program, as well as integration of the Indian Knowledge System, industrial visits, and workshops.
