Arai introduces specialised programmes for electric vehicles

The Automotive Research Association of India (Arai) Academy, Pune has started two specialised courses. The courses have been planned with an aim to motivate the electric mobility across the country and give professionals an opportunity to work in this field. Since the central government is inspiring people to use electric vehicles, various automobile manufacturing companies have begun making electric vehicles. Due to this, there has been a demand of skilled engineers in this ‘automotive engineering’ sector.

Talking about the first course, it is the postgraduate diploma in electric mobility. It is a one year course which was commenced in August 2019. They have collaborated with Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), College of Engineering Pune (COEP) and Cummins College of Engineering for Women. They provide admission to 20 students from each institute. Every Monday and Tuesday students go to Arai academy and for the remaining weekdays, they go to their corresponding college for lectures. The students are provided practical exposure about how electric vehicles are designed, tested and manufactured. New intakes are slated to take place in June.

Talking about the second course, it is MTech in electric and hybrid vehicle which is a two-year course. The first year is completed at Vel Tech University in Chennai and the second year is finished at Arai Academy Pune. This course was commenced last year, the intake is of 30 students and this year 25 students enrolled for it. The student who take up these courses can pursue a career as a design engineer, test engineer or maintenance engineer for electric vehicles.
