BV Raju Institute of Technology plans to start MTech in data science, says Principal
BV Raju Institute of Technology Principal Sanjay Dubey says to cater to the needs of the industry and to take part in the revolutionary development in technology, the institute is planning to increase additional seats in computer science and allied branches.
BV Raju Institute of Technology, also known as BVRIT, was established in Medak, Telangana, in 1997. BVRIT Hyderabad is affiliated with Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad (JNTUH). The college offers 20 courses in total, 13 undergraduate and seven postgraduate courses under three streams – engineering, design and business and management studies.
In an interaction with Shiksha.com, BV Raju Institute of Technology Principal Sanjay Dubey explains in detail about his future plans, placement statistics and new courses at the institute.
Q. Are you planning to start any new course or increase additional seats in the existing courses at BVRIT?
A. Yes. To cater to the needs of the industry and to take part in the revolutionary development in technology, we are planning to increase additional seats in computer science and allied branches. Also, we are planning to start new MTech courses in data science and electric vehicle technology to enhance the research culture.
Q. Engineering education has become costlier in Telangana. Has BVRIT also revised its fee structure?
A. As a part of revising the fee structure procedure for every three years, the Telangana Admission and Fee Regulatory Committee (TAFRC) has revised the fee structure of BV Raju Institute of Technology also.
Q. Engineering colleges are no longer just science and technology institutions. They have started focusing on non-engineering courses such as humanities, arts and social science. Are you also planning something in this direction?
A. BV Raju Institute of Technology is a complete engineering college offering BTech programs in biomedical engineering, pharmaceutical engineering, chemical engineering, civil engineering, mechanical engineering. It also offers courses in circuit branches such as electronics and communication engineering, electrical and electronics engineering, computer science and allied branches. As per the directions of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), University Grants Commission (UGC) and Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad (JNTUH), the curriculum that is taught to the students includes various courses on basic sciences (BS), humanities/social sciences and management (HS), and mandatory courses at the foundation level.
Q. Are there any expansion plans in terms of building more infrastructure, campus, facilities such as labs, innovation centres, etc?
A. Yes. As per the strategic plan of the institution, the development and the expansion of the infrastructure takes place on the campus every year in terms of classrooms, laboratories, research labs, students spaces, hostels, canteens, etc. We had recently developed Space Engineering Lab, Antenna Testing Laboratory, Go-Karting & ATV Track, Audio Visual Centre. We are also receiving proposals from the industry to establish various Centres of Excellence in the areas of artificial intelligence, cyber security, augmented reality/virtual reality and other trending domains.
Q. How was the placement season at BVRIT?
A. It was phenomenal. In fact, the highest starting package bagged by one of our students this year is 47.12 lakh per annum by Adobe. More than 2,000 placement offers have been recorded by the students of the outgoing batch. The 2022 batch received total placement offers of 2065, while the ongoing batch of 2023, has received a total of 1,185 offers so far. The placement season is still underway at the institute.
Q. What steps have you taken towards strengthening industry-academia collaborations?
A. Participation of industry experts in statutory bodies
All statutory bodies of our institute such as Board of Studies, Academic Council, Governing Body comprise various industry experts as the stakeholders for mentoring the institute for curriculum design, industry-academic collaboration, internships, placement opportunities and the overall development. A total of 353 students of 2022 batch and 186 students of 2023 batch bagged internship offers in different companies. The process is still on.

The industry laisoning offices have been set up at various metropolitan cities of the country which aim and tend to build connections with industries and opportunities.
Staying in touch with the alumni
We make sure that we have updated database of the institution’s alumni (especially the ones who are into recruiting) and seek their help in bringing in reputed companies to the campus.
Leverage LinkedIn
There are many recruiters out there on LinkedIn who are interested in campus recruitment solutions. We connect with them for collaboration and development process. In addition to the above, collaborations with various industry bodies such as CII, NASSCOM, IIC, ICT, etc. leverage the connection with various industries.
Q. Does the institute help students with internships? If yes, how?
A. Yes. The students are given the provision of completing the elective courses of final year second semester during third year and final year first semester itself through MOOCs. Thereby, the students will be free from courses in final year second semester and they can pursue their academic project as a part of internship in the industry.
