CBI raids 20 locations, books private institution over alleged irregularities in conduct of JEE Main 2021

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against Affinity Education Pvt Ltd and others, including its directors – Siddharth Krishna, Vishwambhar Mani Tripathi, and Govind Varshne.

The CBI raided 20 locations in and around Delhi, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra in a case relating to alleged irregularities committed by a private institution in the JEE Main 2021 exam. 

Institution was helping students through remote access in Sonepat

It is alleged that the institution and its directors were manipulating the JEE Main online examination by helping candidates in solving their question papers through remote access from an examination centre in Sonepat district of Haryana. The accused used to charge between Rs 12 and Rs 15 lakh per candidate to facilitate admissions in top National Institutes of Technology (NIT).  

25 laptops, 7 PCs seized

During raids, the agency recovered 25 laptops, seven personal computers, around 30 post-dated cheques, along with voluminous incriminating documents, including provisional degree certificates of various students, and other devices.  

JEE Main 2021 session 4 exams were held on August 26, 27, 31 and September 1, 2, 2021, in 13 languages – English, Hindi, Gujarati, Assamese, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. The first and second sessions were conducted in February and March, respectively. Nearly 7.8 lakh students have reportedly appeared for the JEE Main 2021 May Exam, which was conducted in August-September. JEE Main result 2021 for session 4 is expected to be announced on September 10, 2021. 

JEE Main is the engineering entrance exam for admission to NITsIIITs and GFTIs. JEE Main is also the qualifying exam for the JEE Advanced, the only admission test for the IITs. This year, IIT Kharagpur will conduct the JEE Advanced.
