COVID-19 Crisis: 24 students test positive for novel coronavirus at NIT Srinagar

COVID-19 Crisis: The wrath of the novel coronavirus pandemic seems to be taking a toll all over again. Out of 47, 24 students of the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Srinagar tested COVID-19 positive on Saturday. While states across the nations are listing restrictions against COVID-19, there are reports of cluster infections are emerging again.
NIT Srinagar conducted Rapid Antigen Test (RAT)
Block Medical Officer (BMO) Hazratbal in a letter to the Head of the Department, Social and Preventive Medicine GMC Srinagar informed that the students tested positive in a Rapid antigen test (RAT) on Saturday. "This is to inform that 24 cases have been Rapid antigen test (RAT) tested for COVID-19 positive while testing today at NIT out of 47 students. It is requested to kindly take up the matter with the concerned authorities for necessary declaration of MCZ," the letter states.
The majority of states have removed fine for not wearing masks in public. People are getting back to normal routines, schools, offices have reopened, and restrictions from international travel have been lifted. However, it appears that while people are getting back to normal life, COVID-19 is planning to return to India with its fourth wave.
COVID-19 XE Variant in India
Gujarat has detected its first case of a more infectious but not more severe than the Omicron variety COVID-19 XE variant. The news emerged on the day the Centre expanded the availability of precautionary doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Meanwhile, this week, Mumbai civic officials reported a case of the XE variant from a sample isolated in February. However, officials at the Indian Sarscov2 Genome Consortium (INSACOG), a network of labs that tracks sequences, and the Union Health Ministry, are yet to confirm if it is an XE variant.
