Google, Microsoft, Amazon recruit students from UIET, Panjab University
It’s the first time ever that three of the world's top four technology companies-- Google, Microsoft, and Amazon have hired from the University Institute of Engineering Technology (UIET).
It’s the first time ever that three of the world's top four technology companies-- Google, Microsoft, and Amazon have hired from the University Institute of Engineering Technology (UIET). Out of the annual pay packages that have been offered by these industry’s giants to five of the Panjab University students, Rs 41 lakh is the highest. There was an online application process to apply for jobs in Google and Microsoft, while an on-campus written test was conducted by Amazon. Two job offers, one each from Google and Microsoft have been won by a final-year student, Tarun Khullar. Google has welcomed Tarun Khullar to join the company as a software engineer, however, nothing is official yet. Two offer letters have been issued to fourth-year computer science students- Tarun Khullar and Shivank Bali.
According to UIET training and placement officer Sarbjeet Singh, the highest paymaster among the 63 companies that turned up for placements in the university this year is Microsoft. Placements in electronic companies have marginally increased compared to the number of enrolments in computer science and IT (Information Technology). He also added that the companies who want mechanical engineers generally go to IITs (Indian Institute of Technology) first.
Gurpreet Singh and Rahul Bafila for an annual pay package of Rs 30 lakh each have been hired by the online giant Amazon. However, another giant in the technology sector, Samsung has hired four UIET students. The telecom industry’s master Airtel has also recruited a good number of students from the institute.
The placement season attracted a total of 63 companies from which almost 308 students have received offers and 256 students have been hired after completing the selection procedure. The average annual pay package of the institute has also increased from Rs 5,5 lakh in 2018 to Rs 7 lakh in 2019. for this session.
