IIT Bhilai and IIC Invite Participation for Dark Patterns Buster Hackathon 2023
IIT Bhilai along with IIC is inviting participation for Dark Patterns Buster Hackathon (DPBH) 2023. Interested candidates can register online at dpbh2023.in till December 31, 2023. Check guidelines for team participants.
DPBH 2023: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhilai and Institute Innovation Council (IIC) is accepting applications for the Dark Patterns Buster Hackathon (DPBH) 2023. The registration is already on going. Candidates who are interested can register for DPBH 2023 online at dpbh2023.in. The last date to complete registration for Dark Patterns Buster Hackathon 2023 is December 31.
The DPBH is held to task students with devising approaches and remedies to counter deceitful design tactics prevalent in e-commerce digital platforms. The fundamental goal of DPBH-2023 is to nurture an environment fostering ethical innovation and problem-solving, directly tackling the critical issues encountered within our online shopping experiences.
This hackathon is a collaborative effort between the Department of Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India, and IIT (BHU), Varanasi, serving as the executing body for this nationwide event.
Guidelines for Team Participation at Dark Patterns Buster Hackathon 2023
IIC and IIT Bhilai will conduct round 1 and 2 of the hackathon. For participation, all team leaders must register for round 1, by submitting their team details along with a one page abstract on the solution being proposed, before the last date. The shortlisted teams have to register for round 2 to be held from January 21 to 31 by submitting detailed proposals, codes, apps, documentation, demo video, tutorials etc. about their proposed solution, three days before the date of round 2 final presentations before the esteemed Jury at the Nodal Centre.
Only 2 to 5 best teams will be nominated by the Nodal Center to participate in round 3 Grand Finale at IIT (BHU), Varanasi to be held on February 17, 2023. The certificates of participation, appreciation, excellence will be given to the participants of round 1, 2, and 3, respectively. During the Hackathon, the participants must build a inclusive solution, spanning browser plugins, extensions, applications, mobile apps, and more.
These solutions aim to encompass the mentioned desired features and functionalities, with the goal of delivering robust, all-encompassing measures. Their objective: to protect consumers by swiftly identifying and revealing deceptive design practices within e-commerce systems in almost real-time.
