IIT Bhubaneswar AHRC Centre: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar has set up a new AI and HPC Research Center (AHRC) to conduct interdisciplinary and collaborative research in the fields of AI and High Performance Computing (HPC). AHRC's primary focus revolves around applying Artificial Intelligence and High Performance Computing in critical societal domains, including medicine, agriculture, environmental sustainability, smart cities, and cybersecurity.
The AHRC is structured as a National Research Center, engaging prominent academic, industry, and government research entities both in India and internationally. It aims to address real-world challenges across multiple domains by leveraging research, innovation, and the application of Artificial Intelligence and High Performance Computing.
Advancing Interconnected Research Initiatives
AHRC cultivates a collaborative environment, uniting scientists and scholars across diverse disciplines and institutions. Together, they create a shared resource and knowledge base, meeting the demands of this rapidly evolving domain. Researchers spanning engineering, computer science, medicine, agriculture, basic sciences, finance, economics, and more collaborate to develop holistic solutions for industry and societal challenges.
In addition to establishing research collaboration with numerous U.S. universities and industrial labs, AHRC collaborates extensively with national institutions like AIIMS, various IITs, as well as universities and the government of Odisha. An illustration of this collaboration is AHRC's joint efforts with AIIMS Bhubaneswar and the State University of New York, developing AI tools for disease diagnosis and rapid screening in rural Odisha communities, aiming to combat life-threatening illnesses.
Prof Shreepad Karmalkar, Director, IIT Bhubaneswar will serve as the Chairman of the AHRC Board, and Prof Ashwini Kumar Nanda will lead AHRC activities as its founding Center Director.
