IIT Bombay Commencement 2024: Honoring 2500 Graduates and Inspiring Futures
The ceremony, akin to a traditional Convocation refrained from conferring degrees, medals, or special awards, recognizing that students were yet to complete their graduation requirements.
The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) held its Commencement 2024 ceremony, welcoming approximately 2500 graduating students along with their batchmates and families.
Natarajan Chandrasekaran, the esteemed Chairman of Tata Sons, graced the event as the Chief Guest, delivering an inspiring Commencement Address. In his speech, Mr. Chandrasekaran emphasized the importance of trust, character, and purpose in shaping successful career journeys. He highlighted trust as a cornerstone for empowerment within organizations, character as the capacity to prioritize values over instincts, and purpose as the guiding force for fulfillment.
The ceremony, akin to a traditional Convocation, featured an Academic procession, addresses by the Chief Guest and the Director of IIT Bombay, Prof. Subhasis Chaudhuri, and a special Pledge. However, it refrained from conferring degrees, medals, or special awards, recognizing that students were yet to complete their graduation requirements.
Prof. Chaudhuri took the opportunity to congratulate the graduating students and reminded them that while their education at IIT Bombay provided an exceptional foundation, the responsibility to build upon it lay with them. He urged them to remember their privilege and the nation's expectations of their future contributions.
Introduced last year, the Commencement event aims to foster a sense of celebration and camaraderie among graduating students and their peers, providing an opportunity for reflection on their journey through IIT Bombay.
In the afternoon session, approximately 2489 students, including undergraduates, postgraduates, and PhD candidates, participated in a photo opportunity with the Director on the dais, capturing memories of their time at the institute.
As IIT Bombay continues to uphold its reputation as a leading institution in engineering education and research, the Commencement 2024 ceremony stands as a testament to the institute's commitment to nurturing exceptional talent and preparing students for impactful careers on a global scale.
