IIT Bombay resumes offline classes as COVID cases dip
The institute was planning to start hybrid lectures from January 2022, but the plan was postponed after an increase in COVID-19 cases on the campus.
As per a report published in The Times of India, 22 months after being shut due to COVID-19, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has finally resumed on-campus classes and laboratories.
The institute was planning to start hybrid lectures from January, but the plan was postponed after an increase in COVID-19 cases on the campus.
Attendance improves in Mumbai engineering colleges
Meanwhile, the footfall in some engineering colleges in Mumbai had improved on the second day of re-opening of the campuses, but attendance in traditional arts, science and commerce colleges remained almost the same.
An IIT Bombay official said COVID cases have dipped on the campus. “Many BTech students had come to the campus before the third wave due to which some returned home but they are now coming back,” he said.
IIT Bombay to hold mid-semester exams in hybrid mode
Sixty per cent of the students of the civil engineering department pursuing undergraduate courses at the institute returned to the campus over the last few months. The institute will hold its mid-semester exams in the hybrid mode again. Those who are back on the campus will have to take exams physically.
Meanwhile, students turned up in good numbers at Thadomal Shahani College of Engineering. “Students want to return to the campus. We have made them realise that one can easily clear exams in the online format, but placements are difficult without skill sets and students learn a lot through peer interaction,” said GT Thampi, principal of the college.
