IIT Delhi Fee Hike: Report on MTech fee hike submitted; Board approval awaited

IIT Delhi Fee Hike: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi MTech students against the fee hike finally got a response from the technology institute. The institute formed a special committee to look into the fee hike matter and the response it has received from the students. The institute said that they are waiting for the IIT Delhi Board to approve the recommendation made by the committee constituted to look into the matter.
βOn the request of the MTech students to review the tuition fee, the Institute formed a committee, which looked into the matter. The committee has given its recommendations, which are awaiting the Board's approval,β the IIT Delhi said in an official statement. The current fee was decided by the Board and was implemented in January 2022, it said.
MTech Students against IIT Delhi fee hike; Demand affordable education
On August 31, 2022, IIT Delhi MTech students launched a silent sit-in protest against a 150% fee hike. Demanding affordable education for all, the students urged the institute for an immediate rollback in the fee hike.
During the protest, the MTech students claimed that the institute has hiked the total academic fee for full-time MTech students being admitted this semester 2022-2023 by 100% to INR 53,100 (excluding hostel fees). Earlier, these charges were INR 26,450. βWithin this amount, the 'tuition fee' has been hiked by 150% from Rs 10,000 to Rs 25,000 for one semester,β it claimed. The statement also stated that the tuition fee for full-time PhD students has also been hiked by 64% from INR 20,150 to INR 30,850 (inclusive of hostel seat rent). They also pointed out a sharp increase in the hostel boarding and mess charges.
