IIT Delhi Recognised as “GATI Achiever” for Promoting Women in STEM
The GATI pilot programme is launched by the DST, in partnership with the British Council.
IIT Delhi has been recognised by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, for its unwavering commitment and efforts to promote gender equity in STEM with the prestigious title of "GATI Achiever" for the Gender Advancement for Transforming Institutions (GATI) programme.
The GATI pilot programme launched by the DST, in partnership with the British Council, aimed to nudge higher education and research institutions to ensure gender equality in STEM.
The "GATI Achiever" award appreciated IIT Delhi’s outstanding contributions to enhancing women’s participation and career advancement in STEM education and research.
Prof. Angelie Multani, Dean, Diversity and Inclusion, IIT Delhi, expressing gratitude, said, "IIT Delhi is spearheading various initiatives to increase the representation of women and other marginalised categories among its students and faculty members. This award reaffirms our commitment to fostering an inclusive environment where diversity is celebrated and all voices are heard".
Under the GATI programme, IIT Delhi conducted an extensive self-assessment, proposing meaningful action plans to address the gender gap and barriers women face in STEM. The Institute is implementing various initiatives, including the hiring and retention of women faculty at the department level, gender sensitisation workshops, and family-friendly policies.
IIT Delhi is also creating accessible infrastructure to pave the way for a more diverse and equitable campus, going beyond the gender binary.
The DST commended IIT Delhi for its pivotal role in driving positive change and inspiring others to follow suit.
