IIT Delhi’s Ashok Kumar Ganguli takes charge as IISER Behrampur Director

Professor Ashok Kumar Ganguli was earlier a professor of chemistry at IIT Delhi and was the founding director of the Institute of Nano Science and Technology in Mohali.

Professor Ashok Kumar Ganguli from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has taken charge as the Director of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Behrampur. He took over the charge from former director of the institute, Yogendra Sharma.  

Professor Ashok K Ganguli was earlier a professor of chemistry at IIT Delhi. He held the Prof NK Jha Chair in the department of chemistry at IIT Delhi and was a joint professor in the department of materials science and engineering. He has earlier held the positions of Deputy Director, IIT Delhi, Institute Chair Professor, and head of chemistry department. He was the founding director of the Institute of Nano Science and Technology, Mohali.  

His research interests include designing of nanostructures using microemulsions for applications in photocatalysis, photovoltaics, and electrocatalysis as well as porous functionalised nanostructures for toxin removal and water purification. He has published over 350 papers and five patents. He is the recipient of several awards and honours. Among them are the Chemical Research Society of India Silver Medal, the National Award of Nano Science and Nanotechnology (DST, Govt. of India), and the Distinguished Materials Scientist of the Year (2021) Award by the Materials Research Society of India.
