IIT Goa to Host Capacity-Building Workshop to Drive Enhanced ESG Outcomes

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Goa in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) and its Mission LiFE Cell, is organizing a two-day technical workshop on October 4 and 5, 2024 to build the capacity of key stakeholders for achieving better ESG outcomes. The workshop named ‘Environmental Regulations - Facilitating ESG & Sustainability for Businesses’ is expected to attract participants from private sector companies, Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs), and state government organizations.

Environmental Regulations - Facilitating ESG & Sustainability for Businesses

The workshop will concentrate on key topics such as environmental regulations, Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) frameworks, and the adoption of Business Responsibility and Sustainability Reporting (BRSR). It aims to clarify these concepts for businesses, thereby aiding India in fulfilling its international commitments made at UN climate summits.

Additionally, the ‘Mission LiFE’ (Lifestyle for Environment) was launched by the Prime Minister and UN Secretary-General António Guterres in October 2022 to promote sustainable lifestyles and tackle the climate crisis.

Prof. Dhirendra Katti, Director of IIT Goa, emphasized that the workshop aims to foster partnerships that will effectively address the climate crisis within a defined timeframe. Expanding on this, Prof. Sundeep Nayak, Chairperson of the Mission LiFE Cell, stated that a series of such workshops will be organized to enhance the capacity of key stakeholders in sustainability reporting. The workshop will also promote the sharing of best practices among participants from India, France, and Taiwan, facilitating valuable cross-cultural learning.
