IIT Guwahati and Samagra Shiksha Assam Organises Science and Maths Olympiad for Over 1 Lakh Students

IIT Guwahati Olympiad: Over 1 lakh students from 3,828 schools across Assam participated in the Science and Maths Olympiad organised by IIT Guwahati. Know details here 

IIT Guwahati Olympiad: To enhance mathematical skills among students in Assam, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, in partnership with Samagra Shiksha Assam, conducted the Science and Maths Olympiad. This event recorded the participation of more than 114,000 students from 3,828 schools across Assam, with objectives centred on developing talent, fostering critical thinking, and improving problem-solving skills in the realms of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). 

The top 2 performers from each district were selected to participate in the final round of the Olympiad at IIT Guwahati. This round provided a platform for the finalists to interact with peers from across the state. The final round recorded 62 (with 32 female and 30 male) finalists from classes 9th and 10th competing, with 3 state winners emerging from the competition. These included:

• 1st Prize: Chandan Kaushik Saikia, Namdeuri HS, Jorhat
• 2nd Prize: Jnanarun Hazarika, Dhalasatra HS, Jorhat
• 3rd Prize: Arjun Karki, Hawaipur HS, West Karbianglong

The Science and Maths Olympiad organised by IIT Guwahati and Samagra Shiksha Assam provided students with a platform to showcase their creativity and ingenuity. The IIT Guwahati Olympiad featured a variety of competitions and interactive activities, motivating the students to explore and embrace the intriguing aspects of STEM subjects, thereby broadening their knowledge, sparking creativity, and deepening their comprehension. 

IIT Guwahati collaborated with the Assam Government on diverse projects. A notable example of this collaboration includes the partnership with Samagra Shiksha Assam under the Rashtriya Avishkar Abhiyan, leading to initiatives such as the Science and Maths Olympiad. Furthermore, the institute participates in various activities such as:

• Mentoring schools across Assam
• Establishing Science and Maths Clubs in schools
• Setting up live labs in schools with hands-on experience
• Residential teacher’s training
• Curriculum enhancement
• School outreach activities and visits to IIT Guwahati campus
• Training for School Principals
