The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG) organised the IITG AI Confluence 2024, a transformative two-day event hosted by the Mehta Family School of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (MFSDS&AI). This gathering brought together thought leaders, researchers, and industry experts to celebrate the power of innovation, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing within the fields of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (AI). The sessions spanned a broad spectrum of topics, highlighting AI's vast potential to drive significant advancements and revolutionize diverse industries such as healthcare, finance, education, and beyond.
Arka Koner (UIDAI) discussed billion-scale biometric identity systems, while Dr. Sriram Ganapathy (IISc Bangalore, Google Research India) explored large language models. Dr. Hridoy Jyoti Mahanta (CSIR-NEIST) showcased AI’s role in analyzing molecular chemical space for healthcare solutions. Dr. Ujjal Kr. Dutta (SatSure Analytics) highlighted how machine learning is transforming earth observation for societal benefit. Dr. Sumedh R. Risbud (Intel Labs) delivered a talk on neuromorphic computing, focusing on hardware advancements inspired by neural processing. Prof. Parimal C. Bhattacharjee (Retired, Gauhati University) emphasised the importance of Northeast India's unique wildlife heritage and the potential of AI in conservation efforts.
A major highlight of the event was the panel discussion titled "Building the AI Workforce of Tomorrow: Skills, Systems, and Opportunities." This insightful session featured a distinguished panel of experts, including Dr. Sriram Ganapathy (IISc Bangalore, Google Research India), Dr. Sumedh R. Risbud (Intel Labs), Dr. Ujjal Kr. Dutta (SatSure Analytics), Prof. Shyamanta M. Hazarika (IIT Guwahati), and Prof. Ratnajit Bhattacharjee (IIT Guwahati).
The discussion delved into the evolving landscape of AI-driven careers, highlighting the skills and systems essential for preparing a future-ready workforce.
