IIT Guwahati student commits suicide in hostel room
The police said In the initial investigation it was found that it was a suicide and further investigation is going on.
A 21-year-old BTech student of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati allegedly committed suicide in his hostel room on Friday night, the police said.
Kamrup district superintendent of police, Hitesh Chandra Ray, said the student from Kerala was found dead in his room on Friday night. “We have recovered the body and no suicide note was found from the spot. In the initial investigation, we have found that it was a suicide and further investigation is going on,” Ray said.
IIT Guwahati issued a statement expressing grief over the death of the student. It said, “It is with great sadness that IIT Guwahati announces the untimely passing away of a final-year undergraduate student of the design department on the campus. The institute has informed the parents of the student and they are on their way to Guwahati.”
On August 31, Rahul Bingumalla, an MTech student at IIT Hyderabad, allegedly hanged himself to death. He was a native of Kurnool district in Andhra Pradesh. The police found a suicide note in his laptop, in which he wrote, he felt that the institute should not force students to complete the thesis. Rahul left a note in the room informing the he wrote a suicide note, which is in his laptop. He also referred to the alleged irregular payment of INR 12,000 stipend in this note.
The suicide note read, "I am not interested to live because of placement pressure, thesis, future struggles in my job. I want to lead a simple life but now it seem to be a struggle for the next years.”
