IIT Guwahati to incubate 100 new start-ups in 3 years
The step will play a major role in the implementation of the ‘Guwahati Declaration’ unveiled by Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan and chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during the North East Research Conclave (NERC) 2022.
Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT-G) is all set to incubate at least 100 start-ups with around 100 doctoral students to be added within the next three years. The step will play a major role in the implementation of the ‘Guwahati Declaration’ unveiled by Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan and chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during the North East Research Conclave (NERC) 2022.
The institute has also assured to provide the ecosystem support necessary for these developments for achieving the goal. The institute shared about the brainstorming sessions conducted during the just-concluded North East Research Conclave to give a final shape to the Guwahati Declaration. The Guwahati Declaration was launched at the valedictory function by Lok Ranjan, secretary, ministry of development of the northeastern region, in the presence of Kamrup deputy commissioner, Kailash Karthik N.
Guwahati Declaration to promote collaborations in the field of science and technology
According to TOI, the document is intended to create a set of guidelines, through which individuals and institutions will be encouraged to promote innovation as a collective responsibility at the grass-roots level and strive to stimulate and execute indigenisation and entrepreneurship. It also encourages advancement in discoveries through sustainable routes.
IIT Guwahati director Professor TG Sitharam shared that the Guwahati Declaration has been formulated after extensive deliberation with ministers, secretaries, and senior officials to assist in developing a robust ecosystem of innovation and entrepreneurship across the NE region and beyond. It will also facilitate better coordination among institutions by promoting collaborations in the field of science and technology, protecting indigenous know-how and sustainability in traditional knowledge and translational research areas.
