IIT Hyderabad Concludes Japan Month

IIT Hyderabad's Japan Academic Day 2024, held in collaboration with JICA as part of Japan Month 2024, designated by the Embassy of Japan in India, successfully concluded. The event underscored a shared commitment to enhancing collaboration and strengthening educational and research ties between IITH and Japan. A total of 72 participants from 15 universities and 6 organizations, including JST, NIMS, JSPS, JASSO, Tech Japan, and JICA, took part. Twenty booths were set up to provide students with valuable insights into higher education, research opportunities, and scholarships in Japan.

Dr. Kazuhito Hashimoto, President of the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), served as the Chief Guest, while Ariyoshi Takashi, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of Japan and representative of the Embassy of Japan in India, and JICA Chief Representative Takeuchi Takuro, were Guests of Honor at the inaugural program. This marks the second time IIT Hyderabad has hosted the Japan Academic Day as part of IITH Japan Month 2024.

Dr Kazuhito HASHIMOTO, President, JST congratulated on the completion of Phase II project at IITH with JICA support and said “JST has the long history with India. Since 2014 with Sukura Science exchange program JST has inspired many young Indians to visit, out of this 5% have come from IITH, highest number from any institution in India. JST is introducing the new initiative, soon regarding academic exchange programs.

Sibi George, Ambassador of India in Japan said “IITH is a shining example in a vibrant link in India-Japan Science and Technology partnership and education partnership. India-Japan has a friendship relationship, built brick by brick. It is a special partnership between two countries regarding political, business and academic relationships. We need to have more exchanges for Science and Technology, and we are going in the right direction. Next year we are celebrating 40th anniversary of signing first MoU in the field of Science and Technology collaboration, and happy that we are celebrating that India-Japan year of Science and Technology and Innovation.”

Mr. Ariyoshi Takashi, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of Japan, expressed his gratitude and said “This wonderful event will be the start of a new joint research between IITH and Japan, as well as an opportunity for IITH students to studying in Japan. I recognize that one of the barriers to study in Japan is learning Japanese, but there are an increasing number of universities in Japan where you can obtain a degree in English only. In addition, Japanese research institutions have unique and world-leading technology, and there is a great potential for collaboration with IITH”

Q:   Is BDes available at IIT Hyderabad?

A:

 Yes, The BDes is a four-year, full-time undergraduate programme that is focused on design education. The curriculum is structured to start with general foundational courses, and then move on to specialised and in-depth subjects as the programme progresses. Students are encouraged to find and cultivate their own areas of interest while sharpening their abilities in design thinking, problem-solving, creativity, and innovation. The programme allows them to explore and work in their preferred areas within the main fields of design, such as Product Design, Visual Communication, and Interaction Design.

Q:   Is it worth going to IIT Hyderabad?

A:

 IIT Hyderabad is consistently ranked among the top 10 Engineering institutes in India by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), making it a highly sought-after institution for Science and Technology education in the country. The total tuition fee of the BTech and Mtech programme can be recovered in a short span of time considering the kind of package the students secure after the completion of the programme, this year the average package offered was INR 20.46 LPA and the highest package secured was INR 65.46 LPA, so considering the total tuition fee and the package secured this seems to be a good return on the investment. 

Q:   Is there M.Tech in IIT Hyderabad?

A:

Yes, IIT Hyderabad offers a 2-year M.Tech programme for foreign nationals in various departments. In addition to this, for Indian nationals, IIT Hyderabad also provides M.Tech programmes across several disciplines. Eligibility criteria for Indian nationals typically include having a valid GATE score in the relevant field or meeting specific qualifications outlined by the institute. The aspiring candidates also need BTech/ BE or equivalent degree in relevant stream with at least 60% aggregate to be eligible for the programme.

Prof BS Murty, Director of IITH presented the research updates at IITH and said “IITH has a strong bilateral relationship with Japan since 2008. I am a strong believer that collaborations bring synergy for the mutual growth. Together, we can create wonders. I thank the Japan Embassy and Japanese Universities and organizations for coming forward to enhance collaboration and strengthen ties between IITH and Japan through education and research”
