IIT-Kanpur, L&T technology services sign MoU

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur or IITK and L&T Technology Systems (LTTS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate in regions of research in industrial and infrastructure cybersecurity. According to a statement from IITK, IIT Kanpur has spearheaded in cybersecurity by establishing the interdisciplinary Centre for Cyber Security and Cyber Defence of Critical Infrastructures (C3i). It further stated that the motivation behind setting up C3i was to do research, educate, train and to exploit and explore the latest trends in cybersecurity to create technological safeguards and protect critical infrastructure.

The MoU was exchanged and signed between the Deputy Director of IIT Kanpur Prof Manindra Agrawal (also a joint-coordinator of the center) and CEO of LTTS Dr Keshav Panda. As per the MoU, IIT Kanpur and LTTS will together establish a Center of Excellence (CoE) on the campus of IIT Kanpur. They will also hold research in the region of Honeypot (network-attached system set up to entrap cyber-attacks and study hacking attempts), malware analysis, block chain, vulnerability assessment, intrusion detection systems, and penetration testing. They will provide cybersecurity awareness and training programmes. 

For critical infrastructure, the MoU will also provide LTTS access to IIT-Kanpur's cutting-edge test bed. As per the MoU, the CoE will be a part of IIT-Kanpur's C3i Centre. The centre is a Government of India-backed one-of-a-kind cybersecurity research centre. This was designed to work on solutions and technologies to safeguard India's tactical and serious utility substructure.
