IIT Kanpur: The Indian Institute of Skills (IIS) Kanpur, mentored by IIT Kanpur, was inaugurated virtually by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi at the National Skill Training Institute (NSTI) in Kanpur. This initiative aims to provide the youth with training and skills in new and emerging technologies.

A partnership was formalised between IIT Kanpur and IIS Kanpur in November 2023 through a memorandum of understanding (MoU), under which IIT Kanpur will provide mentorship to IIS for five years. The signing of the MoU took place in the presence of Dharmendra Pradhan, the Minister of Education and Minister of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship.

IIT Kanpur's Role in Mentoring IIS

IIT Kanpur will undertake a few responsibilities to support IIS Kanpur, including guiding the creation of lab infrastructure, crafting relevant course curricula aligned with lab-based learning, assisting in hiring faculty and technical professionals, providing jointly certified diploma and certificate programs recognized by both institutions and setting up the Centre for Deep Skill Training and Research (CDSTAR) within IIT Kanpur. This centre aims to enhance the educational offerings at IIS Kanpur by focusing on in-depth skill training and research.

Deep-Skill Laboratories

To further enhance experiential learning and create a fusion of skill and knowledge between the students of IIS and IITK, there will be at least six Deep-skill laboratories housed at the Centre for Deep Skill Training and Research at IIT Kanpur. It will include Noise and Vibration Lab, Advanced Control Systems Lab, Advanced Robotics Lab, Semiconductor Packaging Lab, Medical Imaging Lab, and Drug and Pharma Lab.
