The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Zynetic Electric Vehicles Charging Private Limited, a leading developer and operator of EV charging stations. This partnership aims to propel the innovation and deployment of advanced AC and DC fast chargers for electric vehicles, representing a major milestone in the expansion of India’s EV infrastructure.

Through this MoU, IIT Kanpur and Zynetic will leverage their strengths in research, academic exchange, and consultancy to address key challenges in EV charging technology. Focusing on power electronics, embedded systems, and AI-driven predictive maintenance, the partnership aims to develop next-generation EV chargers tailored to the needs of India’s rapidly expanding electric vehicle market. By combining IIT Kanpur's research excellence with Zynetic's industry expertise, this collaboration seeks to deliver chargers with superior reliability and efficiency.

Prof. Manindra Agrawal, Director of IIT Kanpur, said, “The partnership with Zynetic is an example of how academia and industry can work together to develop EV infrastructure and help India achieve its green goals. The government’s ambitious goal of achieving 30% of new private vehicle registrations being EVs by 2030 will require a massive charging ecosystem to cater to 8 crore EVs. This collaboration will enable IIT Kanpur to contribute to fulfilling India’s energy goals.”

Prof. Tarun Gupta, Dean, R&D at IIT Kanpur, said, “Our partnership with Zynetic presents a unique opportunity to push the boundaries of innovation in EV charging technology. By leveraging IIT Kanpur’s research expertise and Zynetic’s industry insights, we look forward to developing advanced solutions in power electronics, predictive maintenance, and AI integration that will shape the future of electric mobility.”

Harshvardhan Tiwari, Founder & CEO of Zynetic Electric Vehicles Charging, said, "We are excited to partner with IIT Kanpur to advance EV charging technology and infrastructure. This collaboration aligns perfectly with our mission to drive sustainable transportation in India and enables us to push forward innovative solutions for the EV ecosystem.”

Q:   Is there a provision of pursuing an integrated BTech degree at IIT Kanpur?

A:

Yes, IIT Kanpur also offers an option of a dual degree, i.e., Bachelors-Masters Dual Degree to the students. A student earns both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree at the end of this five-year course. The dual degree programme has three categories:

  • Category A: In this case, both degrees are in the same discipline/department. Example: BTech-M Tech.
  • Category B: This is a two-discipline/ department programme where the bachelor’s degree is in the parent discipline/ department and the master’s degree is in a different discipline/ department. Thus, three combinations are possible in this category, ex: BTech-M Tech, BTech-MS and BTech-MDes. Students can choose any one of the aforementioned combinations.
  • Category C: In this case, the bachelor’s degree is in the parent discipline/ department and the master’s degree is MBA. Ex: BTech-MBA.
