The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK) is set to host its 57th Convocation Ceremony on June 29, 2024, celebrating the academic achievements of its graduating students as they embark on the next chapter of their lives. The ceremony will be graced by the Chief Guest, Prof. Jayathi Y. Murthy, President of Oregon State University, USA, and an IITK alumna. Dr. K. Radhakrishnan, Chairperson of the Board of Governors (BoG), IIT Kanpur, and Prof. Manindra Agrawal, Director of IIT Kanpur, will also preside over the highly anticipated event.

2,332 Students Graduating From IIT Kanpur

This year's IITK convocation ceremony for 2,332 graduates will be held in two sessions. The first session, taking place in the main auditorium of IITK, which seats 1,250, will honour high achievers. The second session will involve the conferring of degrees by individual departments in various Lecture Halls, led by the Chairperson of the Senate Post-Graduate Committee (SPGC) and the Chairperson of the Senate Under-Graduate Committee (SUGC). These two sessions are arranged to ensure all graduating students can partake in the celebration of their academic accomplishments.

The graduating students this year include 226 PhD, 457 MTech, and 842 BTech recipients. The ceremony will also honour 165 MSc (2-year) graduates, 36 MBA graduates, 12 MTech-PhD (Joint Degree) graduates, 1 MDes (Joint Degree) graduate, 17 MDes graduates, 77 MS (by Research) graduates, 40 PGPEX-VLFM graduates, 26 Double Major graduates, 89 Dual Degree graduates, 14 MS-PD (MS part of the Dual Degree) graduates, 125 BS graduates, and 205 eMasters degree program graduates. This diverse group of graduates exemplifies IITK's wide-ranging academic programs, reflecting its commitment to fostering a multidisciplinary academic environment.

IIT Kanpur 57th Convocation Dress Code

The ceremony will adhere to the IIT Kanpur administration’s dress code recommendation, with male students wearing a cream-coloured kurta paired with white pyjamas, and female students donning a cream-coloured kurta with white churidar or leggings, accompanied by formal footwear.

IIT Kanpur's Convocation Ceremony Chief Guest

Prof. Jayathi Y. Murthy completed her Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from IITK and was honoured as a Distinguished Alumna in 2012. In 2022, she was appointed as OSU's 16th President, becoming the first woman of colour to lead the university. Prof. Murthy is a renowned leader in engineering education, recognized for her commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
