IIT Madras Introduces AI-Based Online English Learning Platform

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras has launched an online English learning platform powered by artificial intelligence for its students to enhance their communication skills. The institution's central library has secured a subscription to Lanquill, a comprehensive AI-based online language laboratory. This platform offers students over 500 hours of learning material, including self-paced guides and multimedia content.

It aims to strengthen their grasp of English grammar by leveraging their native language. To get access of the platform, IIT Madras students are required to fill in a Google doc form telling their interest, which will help the Librarian to create an ID for the interested students. The link will be available at the official website of IIT Madras’ ‘BeHappy initiative’: behappy.iitm.ac.in/communication-skills.html.

Once they register and after login, they can see ‘My language LAB dashboard’ where features will be available in reference to listening, speaking, reading, writing, grammar and quiz.

IIT Madras states, “Communication in English is important for all, be it technical paper writing, quizzes, semester exams, internship interviews, project reports, placement interviews and general interaction with peers. The AI-inspired LANQUILL tool is suitable for all levels of learners. It helps students to express ideas clearly in an academic and professional format. And real-time speech analyzer helps improve your accent and pronunciation and also grammar checker to help explore all aspects of your writing, including sentence structure, sentence length, writing style, punctuation, voice, and much more.”
